Just a heads up on credit cards in Ecuador…I have a chase card issued in conjunction with an airline frequent flier program as did my travelling companion. We brought there cards with us because Chase doesn’t charge foreign transaction fees on them; however, several places tried processing our cards and received a message that the card was invalid including a hotel where we stayed for four nights. The manager called the Chase number in the U.S. and the problem was with the system/bank the hotel uses. It happened four times so if you have one of these cards, bring a spare or be prepared to use your ATM. I had to use mine and was pleased to find out that I was not charged any transaction fees..maybe because it’s the same currency.
